WRAP EXPOSED PIPES
External pipes are obvious – those need to be wrapped in advance of freezing temperatures. But don’t forget exposed pipes on external walls like in places like your garage or crawl space.
CLEAN GUTTERS
Now that all the leaves have fallen, get them out of there so they don’t rot or worse: allow water to pool/divert around your foundation, causing upheaval.

Don’t skimp on the thermostat – exposing your foundation to colder temps is never a good idea.
COVER YOUR SPIGOTS
The last thing you want is a spigot to freeze, and potentially burst pipes in or below your foundation. This will wreak havoc on your foundation, as well as your water bill.
MULCH. MULCH. MULCH.
Adding a little extra mulch in your landscaping – right up to your foundation – is a good way to insulate your foundation against colder air. The warmer you can keep your slab, the better.
